Objectives:

The focus of the CHEF research projects are the health of children and adults in the Faroe Islands with emphasis on the impact of their seafood diet and exposure to marine contaminants.

The overall aims are:

  • to improve and apply methods for assessment of chemical exposures at different life stages;
  • to assess the possible adverse effects of these exposures on early postnatal growth and development;
  • to characterize the impacts on neurobehavioral, cardiovascular, endocrine, and immunological functions and their long-term health implications; and
  • to translate the research findings into exposure limits, dietary advice, and other relevant interventions.
